By Yanna Solace Adofina
The past year might have been quiet on the streets, but there's no reason why we can't begin 2021 on a high note. Last 30. January 2021, lifelab.spaces and StadtGesichter joined forces once again to bring you four of the fiercest women artists from Cologne's independent music scene -- Oh yes, it was Ladies Night at lifelab.spaces, and what a night indeed it was!
For our kickstarter event this year, we continued our event by celebrating female empowerment all around, as our performers showcased their talents via livestreaming on lifelab and StadtGesichter's numerous social media platforms.

Our resident master of ceremonies, the dynamic Soleil Ndongala warmed up the virtual audience, together with the beautiful Nadine. The performances of the night also highlighted lifelab's flexible and sustainable events space, conducive for meetings, creative and agile work, film shoots and more.
First off the stage was the lovely NAOMI, whose warm, expressive vocals left the room entranced with the song "Dein Licht", a song dedicated to her late mother. Together with Janina Tzonas on keyboards, their performance was a wonderful start to the evening's festivities.Originally from Bonn, NAOMI moved to Cologne in 2008, determined to pursue her passion for music. Her exquisite blend of RNB, afrobeats, and hiphop has placed her as one of the best voices in Germany.

Her raw, passionate voice is a product of various experiences in the music world ---- from the children's musical choir, to various bands, and even casting shows. Her energy and charm translates through the screen; leading the viewers to sing along with her catchy cover songs.

Our third lady crooner for the night was 23-year-old guitar prodigy and singer-songwriter Sophie Chassée. Her collaboration with world-renowned guitarists like Gomm, Joscho Stephan, Francesco Buzzurro, André Krengel and Michael Fix has given her high esteem among colleagues in the music industry. Sophie hooks in her audience with the modern fingerstyle of guitar playing à la Andy McKee or Ben Howard, together with her rich, soulful voice.

Our final performer tonight was the multi-talented, soulful chanteuse BB Thomaz. Her name is already making the rounds in the music scene, having worked with the likes of Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson and Ed Sheeran. She was also one of the shortlisted acts for 2019 Eurovision Song Contest pre-round, with the song "Demons" in her arsenal.
